Yonsei University

Pros

• I've done Middlebury in the U.S., as well as classes at Yonsei, PNU and Korea University. My opinion is that they were all pretty good, Korean teachers with a license working at a university in general are very talented and capable
• Personally I think the program is really good for you if it’s to go to school in Korea or even work. I would honestly also recommend it for my fellow gyopos to bring their writing and grammar up to speed with if their speaking and listen...
• I studied abroad at yonsei before and LOVED the area
• Yonsei handles placement differently.

Cons

• I’ve done Yonsei only so I can’t speak on INHA but Yonsei the criticism is right it’s quite grammar heavy and my native Korean friends took a look at my textbooks and said a lot of them were pretty advanced ... I did find the curriculum...
• I heard Sogang is known for speaking and Yonsei is more on grammar. So if your goal is speaking Sogang would be great choice.
• From what I could find out, the curriculum is pretty similar at the Sinchon schools, but that Yonsei has more of a “party” vibe and is more diverse
• Yonsei is grammar-heavy, with little focus on actual everyday conversation skills. I can confidently say that my classmates in Inha level 2 were better at speaking Korean than my classmates in Yonsei level 3.
• I’m not aware of Yonsei placing students in classes based on their nationality or how good they are in the language. I attend Yonsei now and have attended others and have not ever seen nationality and proficiency affect placement.
