Pros

  • You can do yoga nidra for free at home. I like Ayla Nova and Tanis Fishman.
  • I only like Nidra when I’m feeling super stressed, and even then I don’t really do it often.
  • I find it very helpful, but mainly for getting to sleep. To me it feels like a specific flavour of body scan.
  • They also offer yoga nidra which I highly recommend and sounds like it would be up your alley.
  • Yoga nidra is great for calming the nervous system and teaching body awareness in a way that feels safe. I find this helpful when I’m feeling in need of rest and soothing.

Cons

  • Yoga Nidra is really not something ancient. Its something devised by the extremely controversial figure Satyananda Saraswati. The way he describes it has no textual basis and the term is not used in this way in the texts.
  • Yoga Nidra can feel a little hokey to me. I call it story time yoga and find that the less seriously I take it the more fully I experience it.
  • my issue with yoga nidra is within 1-2 minutes i become the person loudly snoring in class that everyone complains about.
  • I want to pre-face this with saying that this is not a rant and I would love to hear recommendations if ppl have them (that are based on what I share below and not just generalized...). ... Every time I attempt it I become annoyed for mu...
  • Parent context: The yoga nidra known today was systematised by swami satyananda, its roots can been seen in Mahabharata, markandya purana and even in hatha yoga book where it is mentioned as a possible tool in spiritual practice. Reply:...

Reply: since modern science has protocolised it as NSDR, and since modern science doesn't have an understanding of this, they have removed this part from the protocolised version of NSDR completely.
