Yamato Museum

Kure is about 40 minutes from Hiroshima and is home to the recently reopened Yamato Museum and the JMSDF submarine museum. It’s not a must-see for a first trip to Japan, but if you’re interested in maritime history it’s a unique place that most international visitors never make it to.

Kure is 35 min down the coast, and the Yamato Museum (the battleship Yamato was built there, just reopened) plus a free submarine you can walk through are a 2-minute walk apart. It's the naval counterpart to the Peace Park, and almost no foreign visitors go.
