Pros

  • I actually loved this aspect of CS a lot, making it my favorite XCOM game (including the originals). The game is "cruel" in the way it depicts a breach with little information available, it puts you under pressure, and when you launch th...
  • The story is nothing to write home about. But the theme, the premise! Brilliant and original. Former enemies who have to learn to work together. ... What a wild turn from "alien invasion #2389".
  • I had a lot of fun with Chimera squad, but my favorite thing about it was the game design philosophy it represents. ... The price made it a must buy at release, and the quality of the game definitely justified its development.
  • I actually rather liked Chimera Squad. I didn't go into it with any major expectations (having picked it up on a massive sale close after launch) and found it to be a fun little romp with a decent (if paint-by-numbers) story.
  • Gameplay wise, I've found it near perfect for my tastes.

Cons

  • My main complaint was that it was too easy. With the right squad setup you could completely deny the enemies any possibility of moving, turning some of the later missions into turkey shoots.
  • I'm an XCOM fan (played 2 + WOTC to death, I absolutely love it) and I bounced off Chimera Squad HARD. The whole thing just gave me this feeling that it was supposed to be a mobile game release and I can't really explain why.
  • If one comes in expecting XCOM 3 or even XCOM 2.5, they're going to be disappointed. But as something to pick up and play quickly without worrying about the mental exhaustion of a full-blown XCOM experience, this scratches the itch.
  • To say that I hate the game would be a bit over the top, but it definitely grinds my gears just how many things are wrong with it. ... I did still enjoy the game for a majority of its run time. When you get used to all the jank, it's jus...

I actually loved this aspect of CS a lot, making it my favorite XCOM game (including the originals). The game is "cruel" in the way it depicts a breach with little information available, it puts you under pressure, and when you launch the breach, you're there praying everything goes according to plan

I call it "XCOM: The Arcade Game" because its very fast paced compared to mainline XCOM. I love breaching; it removes the whole "creep slowly through the fog of war to not engage too many enemies." The base management is fairly simple to get you back in the action quickly.

I loved chimera squad. Much more focused, light management. You get the tactical essence of xcom games in short bursts. Perfect for grown ups with little time to game and want to be able to get right in the action for 20 minutes after a two month break.
