Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Wurkkos CL01 is a highly-regarded compact camping lantern praised for its efficient buck driver, build quality, and versatile lighting options. It is frequently compared favorably to larger lanterns like the Sofirn LT1 series due to its portability and thoughtful design features, such as downward-angled light that reduces glare and a very strong magnetic base.

Pros

  • Efficient buck driver provides good regulation and runtime
  • Versatile CCT/tint ramping and RGB color modes
  • Strong magnetic base and integrated tripod thread
  • Replaceable 21700 battery with power bank functionality to charge devices
  • Downward-angled light design prevents direct eye glare

Cons

  • RGB color modes lack adjustable brightness
  • Lack of stepped brightness levels makes it difficult to estimate remaining runtime
  • Dial sensitivity is high, making fine adjustments feel abrupt
  • Moonlight mode is not significantly dimmer than the low setting

Caveats

  • The stepless ramping interface is the only option, which may not suit users who prefer discrete brightness steps
  • Some users find the dial control functions to be counter-intuitive or 'reversed'

Best for

  • Camping and tent lighting
  • Travel and emergency kits
  • Nightstand use

Avoid if

  • You require precise runtime tracking through stepped brightness modes
  • You need an ultra-low moonlight mode for sensitive night vision

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~383 days) based on the provided timestamps, though lanterns are generally stable products.

It's so good. I just wish you could adjust the brightness of RGB, and more importantly I really, really wish it had stepped ramping. Or maybe if the controls were reversed, that would also help a little.

I love it but I would prefer if the dial functions were reversed.

It's my favorite lantern period, not just for 2025. The way it angles light downward to keep it out of your eyes compared to the others is fantastic.

I have bought four. Two for me, one for my parents, and one for my brother. I love them.

I got one and I absolutely adore it. The quality is much higher, and performance much better, than I could have ever expected. Very fun light, and to have a replaceable battery is very cool.

Personally, it's my favorite lantern of all time, but I realize others may disagree.

CL01 has a very strong magnet in the base in addition to tripod thread.

I own two and pretty happy with them. Only complaint is you can't change the brightness for the RGB mode, if you want a really low red for example. But other than that it is a great lantern.

I have one and am definitely considering a second. So yes go for it! The ability to change tint and the RGB features are sweet, and it can charge your phone in a pinch.
