It was like the various found footage and mockumentary movies you often see in this genre *but written*. It consists entirely of Forum Posts, News and magazine articles, book excerpts and written down conversations. A bit like World War Z but with much more varied sources.
World War Z is a great audiobook and would lend itself to having inconsistent and varying free time! It's very different than the movie so don't worry if you saw it and hated it.

World War Z by Max Brooks (forget the movie completely, it has nothing to do with the book). The first half, specifically the "Great Panic" chapters, is the absolute gold standard for sudden Day-0 hellscapes.
"World War Z" (the book is very different to the movie!) is a collection of interviews with survivors of a zombie outbreak. Each person tells their story - what life was like before, during the initial panic, how they survived, and what their life is like afterwards.
Outside of the title and the concept of zombies this is as much of an adaptation of World War Z as it of the War and Peace.
I am very prone to nightmares, especially about zombies, but the way World War Z is told makes it feel more like a documentary than a horror book, so it didn't really scare me, and parts of it were fascinating.
