AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a widely available, popular bourbon known for its sweet, dessert-like profile featuring heavy notes of butterscotch, caramel, and cherry. It is frequently cited as a 'legendary' daily drinker and an excellent entry point for beginners due to its smoothness, though some enthusiasts find it lacks complexity or has a thin mouthfeel compared to its competitors.

Pros

  • Rich, sweet flavor profile with prominent notes of butterscotch, cherry, and vanilla.
  • Highly approachable and smooth, making it a top recommendation for bourbon newcomers.
  • Widely available 'shelfer' that is easy to find at most retailers.
  • Flavor profile often evolves and improves as the bottle remains open, becoming more butterscotch-forward.

Cons

  • Can be perceived as 'cloyingly sweet' or one-dimensional by some drinkers.
  • Mouthfeel is occasionally described as thin or weak, particularly at its 90.4 proof.
  • The heavy oak influence can sometimes feel unintegrated or 'tastes like pine sap' to certain palates.
  • Reports of inconsistency in quality, specifically regarding certain store-picked 'barrel selects'.

Caveats

  • Frequently compared to Old Forester 1910; many users find 1910 to be a more complex alternative with a better mid-palate.
  • While many find the price fair, some users feel it is becoming expensive for its proof and complexity level.

Best for

  • Fans of sweet, dessert-forward bourbons.
  • Beginners looking for an easy-to-drink 'daily' bourbon.
  • Gifting to casual whiskey drinkers due to its name recognition and approachable profile.

Avoid if

  • You prefer high-proof, spicy, or high-complexity spirits.
  • You are sensitive to very sweet or syrupy flavor profiles.
  • You prioritize a thick, oily mouthfeel in your whiskey.

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of approximately 389 days, but remains relevant as this is a stable spirit product.

I LOVE Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Whatever I try, no matter how expensive or loved...I seem to always come back to WRDO.

another might have more butterscotch (Woodford double oaked) ... Conversely, I thought the eagle rare was delicious, as was the Woodford double oak

Parent context: I can’t get over a peculiar taste I get from this and prefer Old Forester 1910 Reply: This. I have a local grocer and a local bar store picks of the DO and they are fantastic

Honestly Woodford DO is one of my favorite “daily” drinkers. Incredible flavor imo. A solid 7/10

Parent context: I feel as if the double oaked is hardly better than the standard offering.. Reply: I feel like they are completely different. Woodford was one of the first I tried. I didn't really like it. It took me a couple months of trying bourbon to start liking them more. I got the DO version and really enjoyed it. Going back to the standard I like it more now then the first try but still doesn't hold up to the DO
