AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Blanton’s Straight From The Barrel (SFTB) is widely considered by enthusiasts to be the superior expression of the Blanton's line, offering a significant step up in complexity and intensity over the standard and Gold versions. Reviewers frequently highlight its rich, oily viscosity and a flavor profile characterized by butterscotch, toffee, and dark fruit. While it is a high-proof cask strength bourbon, many users are impressed by how well the alcohol heat is integrated, though its high secondary market price and single-barrel variability remain points of contention.

Pros

  • Significantly more complex and flavorful than the standard 93-proof Blanton's
  • Exceptional mouthfeel described as oily, heavy, and velvety
  • Rich dessert-like notes including butterscotch, toffee, and chocolate
  • Often drinks 'below its proof,' showing surprising smoothness for 125+ proof
  • Highly regarded for pairing well with cigars

Cons

  • High price point often leads to poor value-for-money ratings
  • Single barrel nature leads to inconsistency between different bottles
  • Some users find the finish to be shorter than competing high-proof bourbons like Stagg
  • Occasional reports of a 'salty' or 'thin' finish in specific barrels

Caveats

  • As a single barrel product, individual bottle quality and flavor profiles can vary significantly
  • Market pricing is often cited as being well above $100, which some enthusiasts feel is too high compared to other available cask strength options

Best for

  • Fans of Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #2 who want more intensity
  • High-proof bourbon enthusiasts looking for a rich, buttery profile
  • Collectors who find the standard Blanton's release too 'boring' or 'thin'

Avoid if

  • You are strictly budget-conscious and seeking the best value-to-price ratio
  • You prefer a long, lingering finish over a punchy, high-proof palate
  • You are sensitive to high-proof 'heat' in spirits

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~562 days), which is generally acceptable for a stable spirit, but users should be aware that market availability and pricing may have changed since the majority of these mentions.

I agree that it is BTAC level. I have one bottle and it is amazing. Comparable to JD14 batch 1, imo.

The SFTB is the only one that I will buy for me ever again.

Not sure if I'd agree with calling it a BTAC level product. I feel like my SFTB is more in the low 8s.

I’m not a Blantons fan at all and rate it a 4 on the T8ke scale. But SFTB is one of my favorites. I agree with the 9.

Taste: I almost don’t have the words to describe it. It is incredible what the various flavor differences between barrels can be. ... This has almost no burn for the proof and drinks very smoothly with no overpowering oak tannins, just sweetness. ... Rating: 9/10 - t8ke scale

Blanton SFTB is not worth the premium in my opinion. I have had a few bottles and it wasn’t worth the hype.

For me SFTB is the best barrel proof bourbon I have bought.

Blanton’s Straight from the Barrel, on the other hand, continues to not disappoint. It was viscous and had super-concentrated flavors that were really enjoyable, like drinking a high-proof Werther caramel candy with a cherry on top.

I was able to acquire 2 in AZ for $160 each and I jumped at the chance. Great stuff!
