Wondrous Creatures has completely replaced both the -span games and the Everdell games for me. It does have worker placement but with a really cool twist to it, the card synergies are fantastic and the combos work really well, and the production values are top notch.

I really liked it. We bought it after trying it at the East Bay Board Game Convention. I love Everdell and this game felt like the expansion I wanted from Everdell. The Captain abilities and the point salad gives a lot of strategic options.
I got my hands on this game, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I love the engine building and multiuse of the cards. I absolutely love easy to understand rules, but even then the game offers you a lot of ways to gain points and it can get really thinky if you really wish to optimize.
Wondrous Creatures features the same artist and has equally excellent looking meeples in a fantasy theme. Plus the closed-book design of the box looks very classy.
**Wondrous Creatures** has been a delight the one time I got it to a table. Mix of tableau building and worker placement. Towards the end, a single turn can have plenty of actions, free actions, and triggers, and it really tickles my group to see one move turn into an elegant machine.
