Pros
- Me too. It was an incredible book.
- This has also become one of my all time favorites. I was deeply affected and will think about this book for a long time.
- I think it places as the second best of everything I read this year. ... This novel is a testament to something so true, so universal, it condenses our collective life within the confines of a small island bordering Antarctica, familial...
- I thought it was a fantastic novel <3
- I thought the prose was absolutely gorgeous, poetic yet not overly complex. I also thought the characters were done well! Especially Orly and the clear autism/adhd he suffers, not outright saying it but showing it quite well. ... I loved...
Cons
- I didn’t hate it or think the prose was that bad but illogical information withholding/secrets as a plot device had me screaming in frustration at points.
- I hated it so much I couldn’t finish it despite being 3/4 of the way through
- It was legitimately one of the worst books I’ve read this year. Bottom 3 out of 60.
- This one didn’t work for me. It felt like several characters got hit by the stupid stick to make bad choices only to drive the plot forward. They didn’t feel like real people. And the prose tried very hard to make something profound out...
- Agreed, I wouldn’t have even finished it but a family member recommended it to me and said the ending was good. Wish I had that time back.

I thought it was too melodramatic and the characters were thin and made repeatedly bad choices. Some good concepts but overall I thought it was pretty average

I think it places as the second best of everything I read this year. ... This novel is a testament to something so true, so universal, it condenses our collective life within the confines of a small island bordering Antarctica, familial and romantic love, exploitative psychopathy and blind cruelty of unspeakable magnitude, which haunts the present with it’s ghosts.
Same, I absolutely hated it.
