Vita Nostra is the most academic "dark academia" book I've ever read.

Vita Nostra by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko is an immensely weird, dark academia novel. It's super unique and pretty highly recommended around here.

it's not precisely what you are looking for, since it doesn't clearly delineate between magic and science and is more about its effect on the metaphysical state of the world, but I feel like you might enjoy Vita Nostra.

I’m a huge baby about horror and never read the genre so I feel safe recommending the novel Vita Nostra. It flirts with eerie and has a bit of body horror in it. It was unsettling but didnt give me nightmares and was a really engrossing read.

Honestly, most of my favorite books are standalones: - Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell - Small Gods - I Who Have Never Known Men - Vita Nostra (there are sequels but they can be skipped) - The Last Unicorn - The Dispossessed

It’s kind of hard to do a dark academia book without some sort of academic setting (there’s definitely ones that do get weird, Vita Nostrae, for example).

Vita Nostra by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko did as well. It was one of the most mind-bending books I've read, and, honestly, I really enjoyed the way it affected my brain chemistry
