If you are set on an upright style cleaner, go for a vax air. It's also not particularly high quality to be fair, but they are an utter bargain (basic one is only £69 right now), they perform quite well, and the filters need way less attention than the shark will.

The vax air is a good option, it's less expensive than sharks even, has similar build quality, does a great job on carpet and hard floor, and the dust container design means you don't have to clean the filters as often.
Vax air is probably the best budget vac around for carpets avaliable in Scotland. Though it is dry-only and not suitable for wet spills, you'll need a spot washer or carpet washer for that. The vax air isn't fancy but does a stellar job on carpets and isn't too heavy.
If you wanted something very budget, a vax air is always a decent option. Good performance, keeps the filter cleaner longer than most others in the price range.
Vax air can be had for around £70 and is surprisingly good for the price.
