- Varanasi has a lot of people, a lot of hustlers, a lotttttt of everything, poor air quality, and then all the stuff happening at the ghats.

There is not a whole lot to do in Varanasi.
There is always a need to exercise caution when you visit a place like that. It's pretty much crowded due to the nature of the city- it's pilgrimage etc . One small festival and people flock there.
Absolutely NOT safe for two western female tourists who (I assume) are inexperienced in India.

Anyway, Varanasi is awesome, a good place to stay is Bengali Tola, just walking there there are many guest houses, most of them will do for a few days. For the Aghoris, either go to Lali Ghat or read the books I, II and III.…meaning the real one don’t wanna be disturbed:) Have fun, Varanasi is one of the most amazing place I’ve seen.
I would definitely recommend Varanasi during Holi week.
