Admittedly, Uprooted isn’t my favorite Novik either, though I still liked it better than Nettle and Bone.
So, I think I'd disagree with you on the pacing and structure; Nettle and Bone very much had me feeling akin to Uprooted, with the clear three act structure, the mundane, the 'safe' otherworld, and then the 'dangerous' otherworld where the protagonist uses what they've learned to resolve the problems intiially introduced in the mundane world.

Spinning Silver Uprooted His Majesty's Dragon I did not like the high school themed ones like the Scholomance series. But these three I mentioned where really good.
Naomi Novik's Uprooted book or her Temeraire series if you re into dragons.
Uprooted by Naomi Novick has The Woods that are like this. Not only are they in the story but I consider them the main antagonist.
