  • Rwanda is considered to provide the best experience, but permits can be obtained for $800 in Uganda, and $400 in the DRC (if that ever becomes safe for tourists again).

The trip was the best thing we've ever done and the biggest grind. This is possibly because we were on the last week of 5 weeks in africa and spent the first 12 days in a camper van driving ourselves around botswana. Having said that, it was still an incredible amount of driving on rough roads (even as a passenger-which I honestly found worse than driving myself). We did 2 days murchinson falls safari, 1 day chimp trek, 1 day queen elizabeth safari, 2 days at Entebbe to see the gorillas. The permits are cheaper in uganda than Rwanda. We saw the big 5 plus hippos, hyena, etc.

It was incredible. You could do an amazing safari just in Uganda. we stayed in Lake Mburo and Queen Elizabeth National parks and saw amazing wildlife. We then went to Bwindi and had an amazing gorilla trek- then up to kibale for chimpanzees. You truly could have an amazing safari with that. However we then flew from kasese to arusha and had a great adventure in Ngorongoro crater, serengeti park we did it all in 17 days. It was amazing- but I loved uganda and saw all the animals we wanted there.

Uganda is amazing too but the gorillas in Bwindi are farther from Kampala and the roads are rougher so you lose more time in transit.
