Pros

  • I have the troubadour Apex 3.0 and is amazing, not sure why the hate.
  • I can also vouch for the Troubadour Apex 3.0. (like u/rbforward suggested).
  • Saying that the Troubadour Apex 3.0 (super sleek too) is a great bag too, but without the shoe pocket.
  • I would look these: Troubadour Apex 3.0, Toshi and Sympl Studios Commuter 2.0 all are full backpack and don’t meet all the criteria’s but they are all sleek.
  • Mine is the Apex 3.0 by Troubadour. I use it mainly for the office. But sometimes I take it out with me on a day hike. The waterproofing is one of the reasons I chose it. It’s also got a laptop sleeve, and it’s big enough for yours.

Cons

  • Take a look at the Mous commuter, the Troubadour Apex 3.0 and the Sympl Commuter v2.
  • Parent context: Mine is the Apex 3.0 by Troubadour. I use it mainly for the office. But sometimes I take it out with me on a day hike. The waterproofing is one of the reasons I chose it. It’s also got a laptop sleeve, and it’s big enough...
  • I was eyeing the Chrome Industries Barrage 22L and Urban Ex 20L, the Alpaka Metro Pro and the Troubadour Apex 3.0, although it is a bit too pricey

The Troubadour Apex 3.0 is 25L. It’s got a compartment big enough for a 17 inch laptop. Just checked the measurements. It’s 15 cm deep, so I think it might be the exact size that you’re looking for. I also commute on public transportation, and it’s just fine for me on crowded days. It’s not too heavy either, and it is water-resistant.

The Apex 3.0 from Troubadour is my daily commute backpack. I have a 17” laptop in it each day, along with my cables, some other work stuff, and some personal supplies. The material that it’s made out of is pretty unique; it is recycled from plastic water bottles. So, it is water-repellent. I’ve had to jog through downpours a few times, and my computer stayed fully dry, so I can testify that it works.

I personally own this backpack, and it’s wonderful. I would definitely advise reconsidering and spending the small amount of extra.
