Pros
- Came also to post about the parental unit! Had it since my son was 1 year old. He’s almost 5 and daughter is 2 and bag is still going strong! Great organization, size and pockets.
- I think the Tom Bihn Parental Unit would suit you fine. Great organization for lots of stuff. 13.5l.
- Recently I bought the Tom Bihn Parental Unit and it’s amazing. The organization is top tier it’s made in US.
- Tom Bihn Parental Unit is kinda the standard recommendation for a crossbody bag for this.
- I jump to the Parental Unit, which I love the organization and flexibility of. It was intended as a diaper bag but works great as a messenger for me. I love the interior zip that lets you either have one large area or two smaller ones.
Cons
- Parent context: Tom Bihn Parental Unit is kinda the standard recommendation for a crossbody bag for this. Reply: When our kids were little-r, the Parental unit was a great bag, albeit a bit heavy.
- Have a Tom Bihn Parental Unit too but again it feels a little snug and too much space lost for organization.

Parent context: Ok I've been considering doing this too. What particular features are working great for you as a non-parent using a Parental Unit? Reply: i have a bit of a unique use case since i'm blind but all the pockets are so helpful so everything has it's own pocket, it's big enough to fit my laptop and/or braille display as needed, but also not bulk out a heap and with the shoulder strap upgrade it can get quite short (i'm 4'11 so this is especially helpful) overall just all the pockets, the zips are easy to close (i'm not good with dexterity either), and it has wheelchair straps for the days i need to use my chair with my chronic fatigue.
i got the Tom Bihn Parental unit even though I don't have kids and it's so good as like a messenger bag style

The Tom Bihn Parental Unit and Synik 26 (watch the laptop compartment size) are great. However, not cheap and also imports.
