Tokyo National Museum

Pros

• Tokyo National Museum - focused on samurai blades, pottery, kimonos and woodblock prints in main building (opens 9:30 closes 5pm) purchased tickets ahead- ticket good for 1 month on day of your choice (spent around 3 hrs here)
• The Tokyo National Museum is one of the best museums I've been to, so I'd recommend going.
• You can easily spend 4 hours at the national museum alone.
• It has a great gallery that walks you through the whole sweep of Japanese art history and would give you a break from the heat.
• Ideal museum experience for me (not a big art museum person). We stuck to the Honkan building and there was a lot of variety. My favorites were the ukiyo-e, ceramics, metalwork, and swords.

Cons

• I haven't been, but if Tokyo National Museum isn't on your must-do list, then I think you should skip it. If you do, change your Day 3 to be Asakusa -> Yanaka Ginza/some of Nippori -> Ueno
• Also National museum will take the whole afternoon, it's huge and there are several buildings.
• The queues for Tokyo National Museum are quite crazy.
• One thing I was thinking was skipping the Tokyo National Museum and saving it for a future trip.
• the huge Tokyo National Museum needs half a day by itself.
