AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Titanfall 2 is widely celebrated as a high-water mark for the FPS genre, particularly for its innovative movement system and creative single-player campaign. While the campaign is frequently described as one of the best in recent years, it is also noted for being exceptionally short, leaving some players wanting more substance.

Pros

  • Fluid parkour and movement system that encourages speed and creativity
  • Spectacular gunplay with intuitive, satisfying combat mechanics
  • Standout level design, particularly the 'Effect and Cause' time-jump mission
  • High production values, including impressive visuals and voice acting for its age
  • Creative 'gimmick' levels that keep the gameplay fresh

Cons

  • The single-player campaign is very short
  • Titan combat can feel slow and restrictive compared to the fast-paced pilot movement
  • Enemy AI is noted as being weak and lacking 'object permanency'
  • The story is polarizing, with some finding it to be generic military sci-fi

Caveats

  • Extreme community hype can lead to the game feeling underwhelming for new players
  • The campaign relies heavily on set-piece 'gimmicks' which, while creative, may not appeal to those seeking traditional tactical shooters

Best for

  • Fans of fast-paced, movement-heavy FPS games
  • Players looking for a high-quality, short single-player experience
  • Those who enjoy creative level design and 'power fantasy' gameplay

Avoid if

  • You are looking for a long, substantial campaign with high replay value
  • You prefer deep, complex narratives over action-focused set pieces
  • You dislike slower, tank-style combat mechanics

I also recently played Titanfall 2 for the first time and remember feeling that the worst part of the game was the story. It was total nonsense. By the end of the game I couldn't tell you who my "faction" was, what it wanted, why it wanted it, who the villains were, what they wanted, etc. It was all generic sci-fi/military dross.

Probably the best FPS campaign in the last 10 years. It's simple yet it works.

Titanfall 2 relies a lot on gimmicky levels (I don't mean this as an insult, its a setpiece military shooter, gimmicky levels are what we're here for)

Campaign looked really solid despite the short length of it. There's some really cool set pieces in there and I think the gunplay is satisfying as they keep coming back lol

I get where you’re coming from overall, especially the contrast between the fast, expressive pilot gameplay and how the mech sections can feel heavier and more restrictive in comparison. And I agree with you on the gunplay and movement that part of the campaign really is exceptional and still feels fresh years later.

While I'm sure it's the bees knees in PvP, the mecha suit is bland in campaign mode. You go from being a psycho wall riding ninja to this slow forward plodding tank where the only threat is falling asleep. The AI is particularly terrible and lacks object permanency.

The parkour is a big selling point and it sells quite well. I knew which way I was supposed to go without world being doused in yellow paint.

The gun play is spectacular. The guns typically one shot/burst enemies so it makes is pretty intuitive to just flip out like some kind of ninja while gunning down everything in sight.

It's ~too~ short. Normally I'm okay with 'shortish' games where they leave you wanting more but it still needs to have some substance.

Played it a few years ago, actually. I thought it was good, but slightly underwhelming after how much people on reddit had hyped it up as the greatest FPS campaign of all time.
