So I finally got through this whole thing and wow. i wasn't prepared for how much it would mess with my head (in a good way) the whole weight vs lightness thing really got to me. like Tomas can't commit to anything because he's terrified of the weight of his choices, but then that very lightness becomes its own kind of unbearable thing.
once you actually get into the book, it’s clear that Kundera isn’t rewarding that behavior, it’s more like he’s using these messy, imperfect people to explore bigger questions about meaning, identity, beauty, and how we carry the “weight” or “lightness” of our lives.
It's a wonderful novel. I loved it. I probably should reread it soon.
