Pros
- Every Robin Hobb work is great to me, Rain Wild Chronicles are just a tad weaker but still a great read.
- I agree that it is the weakest section of the series, but I still really, really enjoyed reading them. They are the closest to a "cozy fantasy" Robin Hobbs writing gets.
- I got to RWC and expected it to take me just a little longer than I'd like to finish but I forged ahead...aaaand loved it from page one and devoured them just as I devoured the rest of the series - in a blink.
- I love Robin Hobb but besides that tend to disagree with many of the sub’s majority takes on ROTE. Including that I love Rain Wilds.
- The lore additions alone are so, so good!
Cons
- for me every book before and after Rainwilds is a 5/5, while this was the only series where the books to me barely reached 3/5. Lot of repetitive love triangle and Nice Guy (TM) antics, one of the books entirely could’ve been cut or heav...

- Not sure I would agree it is YAish, but I did not enjoy the coming of age themes present. I also found the ratio of stupid decisions to payoff to be weaker than in the first and second Fitz series.
- Personally I thought it was very good, but could have been edited down to a trilogy (like the rest of RotE) and would have been phenomenal. It just goes a bit long at times and could have been tightened up.

for me every book before and after Rainwilds is a 5/5, while this was the only series where the books to me barely reached 3/5. Lot of repetitive love triangle and Nice Guy (TM) antics, one of the books entirely could’ve been cut or heavily merged into the other books, and for some odd reason the books are super slow but then the main plot points are all rushed.

Still well written and I don’t think anyone should skip them but it’s a little weird that they are part of the same series as the rest of the books - just feels like a weird left turn for four entire books, than back to our regularly … Reply: Hard disagree. I wouldn't call *any* of RotE YA, other than there are young characters in some of them. But even still, there's no way it's more YA than the first Farseer trilogy.

All the reviews seem to indicate this is the wekeast series in ROTE so I set my expectations low and was..pleasantly surprised as I thought they were fantastic.
