The Midnight Library is super popular and was highly touted by others in my book club, but I hated it so so much that I stopped reading fiction and only read nonfiction for a nearly a year. I think I was particularly disappointed because the premise seemed interesting, but ended up coming across as some terrible self-help book in disguise.
Good grief I just finished this one today and the first couple chapters (okay 3/4 of the book) are utterly depressing. For some reason the count down at the beginning of each chapter for how many hours Nora has before she kills herself almost had me put this on the DNF shelf. It definitely did not have that listed in the Audible summary, just all the awards and its a through-provoking, witty and feel-good book. Yea in the last 1-2 chapters are "feel-good" but the rest of the book was a bit horrific.
I recommend Matt Haig’s *The Midnight Library,* I read it during a time in my life when I felt like I wasted many years on a goal that didn’t pan out. I had a lot of regrets. The book made me gain a more realistic appraisal of the “what-ifs” because we tend to romanticise and see the “what-ifs” with rose-tinted glasses.
