Pros
- Sarah Waters: The Little Stranger.
- Something like The Little Strangers is more Gothic slow burn.
- The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. The common element is the idea that ordinary people can create hauntings, not only of places but of our own minds.
- And I’ll second, The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. I still can’t stop thinking about it.
- The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters - It’s not horror as such but gothic and creepy with an astral projection theme
Cons
- People love this book and I'm not sure why. I've even read it twice (a second time because of so many people I respect raving about this book that I had thought I'd missed something). It wasn't for me - although, I did like the writing b...
- I would call it a great historical fiction novel but a bad horror novel. The middle of the book has at least 100 pages where nothing even vaguely spooky happens.
- Nothing scary happens, if that's what you're hoping for. I was a little irked that I bothered with the whole thing, frankly.
- I'm on p100 of The Little Stranger and there has been no indication as yet that this is even a horror novel at all. Might as well be about English country romance or could turn into a war thing.

The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. It’s a slow burn story with low-key supernatural themes and a heavily melancholic vibe. ... for someone seeking a story with emotional depth and texture it’s well worth reading. I personally enjoyed it.
I loved that book. Incredibly atmospheric and very unsettling. Probably not for everyone though.
People love this book and I'm not sure why. I've even read it twice (a second time because of so many people I respect raving about this book that I had thought I'd missed something). It wasn't for me - although, I did like the writing but I felt like it really was never going anywhere until it suddenly was in the final pages.
It's a book that I really enjoyed, but it's not a horror book really. DNF if you're not into it.
I would call it a great historical fiction novel but a bad horror novel. The middle of the book has at least 100 pages where nothing even vaguely spooky happens.
