Pros
- The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (V.E. Schwab) - just read this recently; such a beautiful and emotionally rich story
- I loved The Invisible Life of Addie Larue.
- Something like The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, where each part opens with an epigraph that the section itself then builds up to, feels like a more clear normal mode case, even if they may not be as frequent.
- Non horror recommendation: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
- Other romance books I enjoyed are The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by VE Schwab, and The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary.
Cons
- I'm writing this prompted by finally having read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. It's one of those titles that you'll frequently find in the two rec subs, so while I wasn't exactly enthused with the premise I picked the book up just s...

- Man I was really excited about The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue but ended up finding the book really boring, disappointing 😞
- Twice I've noticed that there are differences. No spoilers - in one spot the narrator reads a wooden plinth with five marble birds, and the book says a marble plinth with five wooden birds. I just noticed that the ebook says the characte...
- Parent context: No idea if it’s the same vibe, but definitely pick up The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue if you haven’t yet! Reply: It’s not really the same vibe at all, I would encourage them to check out Vicious over Addie if they want...

I'm writing this prompted by finally having read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. It's one of those titles that you'll frequently find in the two rec subs, so while I wasn't exactly enthused with the premise I picked the book up just so I can say I read it and form a personal opinion. Addie's impression on me turned out to be lukewarm
Other romance books I enjoyed are The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by VE Schwab, and The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary.
God yes to Addie LaRue, that book destroyed me in the best way possible. The centuries-long emotional chess match between Addie and the Darkness is exactly what OP is talking about - you can practically feel every microscopic shift in their dynamic
The central relationship begins with pure antagonism (a Faustian deal), builds over centuries through repeated encounters, and the slow shift from intellectual sparring to love is exquisitely earned. The emotional payoff when vulnerability finally breaks through is monumental.
