This book started strong, exactly the kind of spooky rural legend story I enjoy. The vibe, especially in the first half of the legend, was so cool, simple, mysterious. At some point though, it tried very hard to implement cosmic horror (which was executed absolutely horrible in my opinion, but that's not the point I'm trying to make) and prophetic language, trying to be twisty and edgy while pulling the story out of the almost cozy campfire story with a clear threat into a kind of forced, pseudo-philosophical bigger scheme of things which lost me at some point.
