The Fifth Season

Some of my other favorite books or series for perspective: Wheel of Time, Song of Ice & Fire, Lord of the Rings, World of the Five Gods, Lymond Chronicles(not fantasy, but feels like it and just plain awesome), The Fifth Season, and Realm of the Elderlings.

If you want excellent fantasy, you could also get your F by reading The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin.

In this eerie post-apocalyptic masterpiece, the setting is a planet devastated by earthquakes, where magic users with the ability to control seismic events are terrorised.

Parent context: Just finished "The Fifth Season" by N. K. Jemisin, and I feel thoroughly disappointed. ... (don't even wanna talk about those second person portions, omg why?) Reply: Yeah I am usually the first to loathe second person but I was able to read this one and I told everyone (before I finished it) that it felt like the narrator was talking to "you" and not me, the reader). I felt so vindicated at the end.

I thought The Fifth Season was very creative and atmospheric, way more immersive than books usually are, due to the great and unique writing.

It was one of the first books I've read in a long time that felt like it was written for adults who could handle nuance and appreciate stylistic prose. ... It was so refreshing to find a new-to-me author who treated her readers like adults :')

I think the trilogy is a masterpiece and the writing is extremely intentional and skillfully done.

But since finishing it, it’s a series that has surprisingly stuck with me. I find myself thinking back to some of its themes

I'm already in the middle of some of these like The Fifth Season (around a hundred pages in)... and I do enjoy them (esp Liveship and the Fifth Season)
