But what is there really worked in terms of this type of romantic pairing imo. My excitement is more that I haven't seen a lot of this type of romance with a pretty good story as well.
It wasn't until The Everlasting where I found something that hit all the right notes for me. Not only is the Re:Zero-like isekai (positive) fantasy story a page turner, but it's handful of spicy scenes were hot. Come for the strong lady snu snu, stay for the tragic and epic millennium spanning tale of time loops, dragons, war propaganda, and Arthurian-like legends.
Though I wasn't over the moon about The Everlasting, of the three highly popular novels that got nominated it's the one I'm happiest to see win.

The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow, if you're ok with some excellent fantasy.
The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow has a fantastic love story that shows them working together to overcome hardship and build the life they want.
The Everlasting by Alix Harrow has a somewhat-bumbling academic-type man attempting to help an extremely surly warrior woman on her mission (in my head she resembled Brienne of Tarth). Both of those books have very satisfying arcs, highly recommend.
I also read and LOVED The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow recently.
This is probably a little out of your intention, but it does fit the brief- The Everlasting by Alix Harrow. It’s a time loop romance/fantasy.
You might also enjoy The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow, a twisty, well-written, epic fantasy romance. Complex characters, unique world building, and an engaging story.
