The Buried Giant

Probably a top 5 book all time for me. Just got a beautiful copy from the Folio Society with some nice illustrations as a Birthday gift last month!

And then The Buried Giant is probably my favorite, a sort of introspective take on an Arthurian fantasy tale.

I'd say one of the books this series reminds me most of is actually The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro. Not in writing style, but in its sort of meandering quest structure (especially the first), and in atmosphere-- misty, uncertain, Arthurian feeling

Kazuo Ishiguro is arguably the best living prose-writer after the passing of Cormac McCarthy. He happened to write an Arthurian-adjacent fantasy in 2016 named ***The Buried Giant***. It's nice and slow too.

The Buried Giant by Ishiguro is slightly fantasy, whimsical, very much lent a cozy blanket & chair on a stormy night vibe, I loved it.

You're never really sure what is going to happen and no one ever feels safe. I also wanted to trust everyone the couple came across but expected treachery at every turn. A wonderfully crafted story.

The second part in the monastry is such a masterclass in writing. Ishiguro writes about these random details that come back and fit into the story incredibly. ... Ishiguro has an insane amount of faith in his readers that they will piece together the random details.

This book became my definition of the word poignant. It breaks your heart but you feel like a better person for it having done so.

It took me a while to get into it for some reason at first, but when I did I couldn't put it down. And it stays with you, I probably rate highrer now than when I just finished it. It's a beautiful book.
