Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • I bought the phone service tello and a Google pixel watch because I heard people say it worked as a standalone device and tello is super cheap. I didn't end up trying it but have tello as my cell service now for 7$ a month.
  • Tello is another option that is better for 2FA codes.
  • Tello can be programmed.
  • Tello is often highly recommended in this sub.
  • I use Tello. It's not prepaid, just a monthly bill like anything else. I get all the data I need for less than $12 / month. It's on the T Mobile network, so good coverage.

Cons

  • I bought some cheap batteries for my kids Tello drones. They all exploded. Every one.

But yes, I use Tello for OTPs, no matter where I am. And not always from USA companies. Many other institutions use any country number for OTP, as long as it's a real mobile one and not VoIP, like GV or Skype. GV is also only available for USA residents, Tello +1 is for anyone, anywhere.

Use Tello instead that way your number is considered real and works with all OTP options

Use Tello, I pay about 5$ a month to keep my US number and it's works with all banks and such for 2fa sms/ OTP. Google voice doesn't work with most banks. You can also activate an esim overseas no problem. This is a great wifi calling setup

Depending how long you plan to stay overseas, if it's an extended trip you should go with Tello. The $5 plan is tailored for expats that need sms verification codes.

Big benefit they have is all plans have unlimited texting, which is good if you’re getting spammed haha. Also, it’s well known that if you manually renew your plan every month, your balance rolls over.
