Parent context: Yes Taormina gets a bad rap here as it it so busy. During the evenings though it is magical. I can't imagine anywhere more perfect for your honeymoon tbh. Reply: Taormina is definitely touristy, but it’s still a beautiful place. Lots of little shops and restaurants, the public gardens are stunning, and it’s all very easily walkable.
If you base in Taormina or Syracusa you'd have access to Etna as well so great hiking, wineries, beaches, and night life.
I know Taormina is expensive but it is also stunning so I’d recommend you go for 1 or 2 nights.
Split time between a base like Palermo or Catania for food, markets, history and a calmer spot such as Taormina, Cefalù, or the Val di Noto towns for beaches and scenery.
