Tanzania

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Tanzania is highly acclaimed on Reddit as a premier destination for wildlife and adventure, specifically for its world-class safaris in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Travelers frequently highlight the country's diversity, ranging from the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru to the tropical beaches of Zanzibar and Mafia Island. While it is noted as being significantly more expensive than destinations in Asia, it is often described as a "once in a lifetime" experience with exceptional wildlife density.
Pros
- Unmatched safari experiences in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater
- High wildlife density, including the Big Five and the Great Migration
- Diverse geography allowing for mountain trekking, safaris, and beach relaxation in one trip
- Opportunities for unique marine encounters, such as diving with whale sharks at Mafia Island
- Lush scenery and lower prices during the shoulder/rainy season (April-May)
Cons
- Significantly higher travel costs compared to Southeast Asia
- Logistical challenges and time-consuming border crossings when combining with other countries
- Potential for short, heavy afternoon rain bursts during the late rainy season
Caveats
- Local operators are often recommended over international tour companies for better value
- A minimum of 8-9 days is suggested to properly combine trekking (like Mount Meru) with a safari
- January and February are specifically recommended for witnessing the migration in Ndutu
Best for
- Wildlife enthusiasts and photographers
- First-time safari goers
- Adventure travelers looking to combine high-altitude trekking with beach leisure
Avoid if
- You are traveling on a strict budget comparable to Southeast Asian prices
- You have less than 12 days and intend to visit multiple neighboring countries

Tanzania is one of the most amazing places I have visited.
We have also gone to Africa in December (Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania) with the main on Safari trips. Also a fantastic experience but way more expensive than Asia. We saw an amazing array of animals, including the big five, and visited the gorillas in Rwanda l, which was a very powerful experience. It’s very warm in those countries, especially Tanzania.
Tanzania is amazing and safaris there never disappoint!
February in Tanzania the migration is in Ndutu. There's also Mount meru which can be done easily for 4 days combine that with the safari to a total of 8-9 days.
We then carried on through victoria falls to mafia island in tanzania where we relaxed on the beach and dove with whale sharks.
If money and time off were no object, safari. Going through Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Along the way hitting giraffe manor, mfuwe lodge and Victoria falls.
Tanzania for sure. Mid January is the best time to go on safari as the migration is there. There are a few hikes to do around Arusha (including Kili).
Personally, I recommend Tanzania if you think it'll be once in a lifetime due to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater.
Tanzania. It’s just before the rainy season so the weather will be gorgeous and great for safari.
Welcome to Tanzania we have a lot of things to explore like Mount Kilimanjaro, Mikumi national park or Serengeti, Zanzibar and so many places that can make you happy
