Talisman

Pros

• 4th edition pluses: 1) A much, much larger pool of expansions, many of which add a lot of interesting stuff to the game.
• 5th edition pluses: 1) Superior art and graphic design 2) Smoother, faster rules
• I like the game enough. It's fairly rudimentary, like snakes and ladders with violence.
• Talisman (ideal for smaller children since it is roll & move, and thanks to creating stories it is not a drag for adults if you are into this sort of thing).
• Talisman is my all time favourite board game, and Betrayal would also be in my top 10.

Cons

• A friend's dad loved Talisman (3rd edition maybe) and had a heap of expansions for it. While the company was good, the downtime was excruciating, so we'd often run a side game of Risk or Catan while the game of Talisman was going.
• Yes, we all know (and you don't really need to say it..) that it has many flaws and falls short in more than a few ways by modern standards. The play-length being anything from 4 hours to 44 hours being one, the broken combos/characters...
• 5th has just one (IMHO) mediocre expansion with a second that seems no more compelling on the way.
• The images on the board are upside down in the 5th edition.
• I believe the fourth edition is out of print, the only differences are a handful of bad rules changes they made in 5th edition that you can just ignore if you want.
