For the golden triangle, I would say 8-10 days would do- this would give you a few days each in Delhi and Jaipur as well as time to see the Taj Mahal with some breathing room in case something goes wrong.

Taj Mahal and Delhi are interesting, but they are also very very hectic, crowded, and dirty, and some of my least favorite places in India.
Taj Mahal is truly beautiful, makes my entire trip so worth it. Meet up with people in my homestay, went in the eaely morning, missed the sunrise, a long queue at the East Gate. But it was still beautiful, the first view of the Taj Mahal in the early morning with a slightly misty background give it a magical feel.
