- I absolutely loved it. The classical gardens, canals, and traditional architecture gave me a glimpse of what I had always imagined as “old China”. It was a perfect contrast to Shanghai’s futuristic feel.
- Shanghai or a water town like Suzhou
- On the 26th we want to do a day trip to Suzhou, heard it's only like 25 mins by train and the gardens look amazing.
- You could include Suzhou and Hangzhou in your Shanghai trip as both cities are within daytrip distance
Cons
- Except for Hong Kong, I’ve found it incredibly hard to keep up a workout routine - tried running in Dali and Suzhou but found it hard to find routes that weren’t along huge roads, and in Dali I was stared at and filmed.

For Shanghai, something you could consider to diversify your experience is to do some short trips to Suzhou / Hangzhou to break up the full time in Shanghai. Both are beautiful (I especially loved Hangzhou) and might take you away from the feeling of being in a more international city vs. Shanghai if the logistics for Shanghai in general make much more sense.

I would include Suzhou and Hangzhou instead of Yangshou as both can be done as daytrips from Shanghai.
