Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Stellar Blade is generally praised as a high-quality action title that excels in combat mechanics, visuals, and music, though it is frequently criticized for its thin narrative and repetitive quest design. While the sexualized character design is a primary talking point, many players emphasize that the core gameplay—specifically the parry-heavy combat and boss encounters—is robust enough to stand on its own. Opinions are mixed regarding the game's depth, with some viewing it as a "style over substance" experience that imitates better games, while others find its straightforward, polished action reminiscent of the PS3/PS4 era.

Pros

  • Fluid and responsive melee combat featuring parries, dodges, and a wide array of unlockable skills
  • High-fidelity graphics and polished environmental design
  • Exceptional soundtrack and atmospheric music
  • Challenging and well-paced boss fights, particularly in the final third of the game
  • Satisfying customization options and a smooth frame rate

Cons

  • Shallow story and forgettable character writing
  • Repetitive side quests consisting largely of fetch tasks and basic collection
  • Wooden English voice acting, especially for the main male character
  • Frustrating traversal mechanics, including punishing fall damage and tedious open-level sections

Caveats

  • The mid-game is often described as tedious, with many users noting that the game's quality improves significantly in the final stretch
  • Character design is highly polarizing; some users feel the game's popularity is carried by its visuals rather than its mechanics

Best for

  • Fans of action-heavy games who prioritize combat mechanics and boss fights
  • Players looking for a visually stunning 'straight out of the box' experience without complex live-service elements

Avoid if

  • You require a deep, narrative-driven experience with strong character development
  • You are easily frustrated by repetitive open-world busywork and fetch quests

Parent context: Once you settle into the central hub city and the side quests start piling up Reply: I get your point, but I think it’s always bad when you have a mechanic/portion of your game for which the solution for is ‘just don’t engage with it’. That’s even worse when part of its core design revolves around having those mechanics. That’s the problem with SB (and Final Fantasy XVI, by the way).

It's the same kind of vibes I was feeling around Stellar Blade, and the hype for that game was actually real.

Or Stellar Blade or Jedi: Survivor, maybe Cyberpunk

Action's good, music's great, exploration is surprisingly fun and dialogue's awful, but that's not super important in this case. I'm slightly surprised by how horny this game is. [...] They clearly prioritize T&A over style here.

Alright but unremarkable... 9.0 user score on metacritic and one of the highest scores on PSN seem carried entirely by the graphics, the bodily “sights” and cringe culture war malarkey. Story and character writing might as well not exist because there’s really nothing to say. It’s a shallow imitation of nier automata with none of the depth, introspection or charm. Combat is the best part of the package but in the end, it’s just ok. Nothing crazy to write home about.

Parent context: Tiddies Reply: I came for the tiddies. Then I realized that there’s also a really cool game, so I cleaned up and started playing.

Parent context: The game is actually fun to play though Reply: I agree, but this has strong “The wings at Hooters are really good” energy.

Right? I mean the looks of the main character was a nice bonus, but overall this was a really solid game. Nothing ground breaking or GOTY worthy (although it was one of my favorite games last year) but still a really good time

Combat was solid, Music was a vibe that i still listen to, had some great environments and I enjoyed all the customization options with some really cool boss fights that got better as the game went on.
