Starter Villain is such a good shout for this, seconding it hard. The dolphins alone are worth it but what really got me was how quickly the whole thing moves, you barely notice the pages going. For someone trying to get back into reading it removes all the friction.

Starter Villain is sci-fi + comedy + easy to read! One of the few books that has made me laugh out loud, I binge read it, the characters are both lovable and memorable (there are sentient talking dolphins fighting for worker rights!). It's more comedic than science-y but very enjoyable nonetheless
