It's got the sounds, sights, and feel of a Star Wars game with the drawbacks of being an Ubisoft open world game with all of the blandness and mediocrity that comes from that. But they're more restrained in Outlaws compared to, say, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint that was filled the island with endless digital pollution. I liked the main character but her attitude and behavior never really changed and she stayed this forever awkward person and near the end of the game I was pretty sick of that.
It was received badly because it’s primarily a stealth game (which you don’t seem to mention), and the stealth gameplay is bad. It’s a stealth game where enemies notice bodies, but you can hide the bodies or move them in any way. Very half-assed.
Love this game, calling it an RPG is more than a little misleading, though. There are very, very little RPG mechanics, no choices to make, nothing approaching character builds. It's a great adventure game with an emphasis on stealth, though
I will die on the hill that this game doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's big, with lots of systems, a standout minigame that could be its own spin off, and very slick presentation. It's also made with such obvious love and respect for the setting. I have my gripes but I love it.
Actual game breaking bugs. When I played I encountered a bug that prevented me from going from space to a planet. This was when I was on my third or fourth planet. I could fast travel to any location I had been previously. I could fast travel into space. But my ship no longer appeared at any port I went to, and in space I never got prompts to land. When I reported this bug my ticket got closed without resolution as it was a known issue with enough reports already. They fixed it in a later patch but I basically quit playing at that time.
I started Outlaws, fully expecting to dislike it, but 20 hours in and I'm really liking it. It’s exactly the kind of Star Wars game I’ve always wanted, just exploring the galaxy as a regular person. The map design shows a ton of love for the lore. I love the fact that you aren't a superhero saving the world. Playing as a relatively normal person dealing with syndicates makes for a nice, laid-back explorer/stealth gameplay.
