AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is generally viewed as a mechanically superior but technically inconsistent sequel to Fallen Order. While players praise the expanded combat stances, deeper customization, and improved platforming, many feel the shift toward a larger open-world structure introduced unnecessary bloat and diluted the focused level design of the first game. Performance remains a significant point of contention, with reports of stuttering and frame drops persisting across various platforms.

Pros

  • Refined combat mechanics with a wider variety of stances and a better 'lightsaber feel'.
  • Extensive cosmetic customization for Cal, his lightsaber, and BD-1.
  • Enhanced traversal and platforming tools like the air dash and ascension cable.
  • Strong Star Wars atmosphere and cinematic storytelling that captures the 'charm' of the franchise.
  • Flexible difficulty settings and accessibility modes that allow for a more relaxed experience.

Cons

  • Persistent technical issues, including traversal stutter and frame rate drops on both PC and consoles.
  • Perceived 'open-world bloat' that some feel makes exploration feel like a chore compared to the first game.
  • Collectibles are frequently limited to cosmetic items, which some players find unrewarding for the effort required.
  • Level design is described by some as less focused and 'crafted' than Fallen Order.
  • Mixed reception to the narrative, with some finding the themes thin or the twists predictable.

Caveats

  • Performance issues are reported even on high-end hardware and older consoles like the PS4.
  • The 'Purity' mode (one-hit kills for both player and enemies) is polarizing and may trivialize or frustrate players.
  • Progress blockers and frequent backtracking can make exploration feel tedious for those who prefer linear paths.

Best for

  • Fans of Fallen Order who want expanded gameplay systems.
  • Players who enjoy deep cosmetic customization in action-adventure games.
  • Star Wars enthusiasts looking for a narrative that feels like the mainline films.

Avoid if

  • You are sensitive to frame rate instability and micro-stuttering.
  • You prefer tight, linear level design over large, open-ended maps.
  • You find cosmetic-only rewards in exploration to be unsatisfying.

Jedi Survivor: Good, strong sequel, but surprisingly mixed bag. ... All in all, I had a good time playing it, even though (as already mentioned), I played it on the PS4 and got some insane performance issues, like the occasional frame rate drops or the environments that clearly made my console work overtime, hence the permanent low fps while navigating them.

I really enjoyed it, but that was because I turned the difficulty down and stopped treating it like a Soulslike, which I’m personality not a fan of anyway. This just made the game much more playable for me, and made the combat feel more like I was wielding an actual lightsaber which could damage people.

Your computer probably isn't the issue with Jedi Survivor, it has terrible traversal stutter even on high end PCs.

I loved it and Fallen Order. I think both are great in their own right with Survivor being the better game in basically every way.

Survivor was a jumbled mess of ideas with no real cohesion.

I think the combat, customisation, progression and most of the levels are a big improvement over the first game. It's just a fun game and luckily, they've actually fixed the performance on ps5.

Survivor was just *so* much better than Fallen Order to me that I always find it perplexing when others prefer the original. ... I genuinely love Survivor & felt it was an incredible experience.

the story was a weird one for me- alternately very stupid, then hitting character beats in a satisfying way.

I think the platforming in survivor was great, and a huge improvement from fallen order.

The story is just cobbled up nonsense. ... Combat was kinda meh. ... The map has some improvements but it's still the same complicated janky confusing bs from the first game
