Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is widely regarded as a successful blend of Souls-like combat and Metroidvania-style exploration set within a highly polished Star Wars atmosphere. While the narrative, pacing, and cinematic quality are frequently praised, the game is also noted for technical 'jank,' clunky combat responsiveness compared to genre leaders, and a disappointing reward system centered almost entirely on cosmetic items like ponchos.
Pros
- Immersive Star Wars atmosphere and 'immaculate' vibes
- Engaging blend of Souls-lite combat and Metroidvania exploration
- Well-paced, focused story that doesn't overstay its welcome
- Impressive visuals and cinematic presentation
- Satisfying lightsaber combat that captures the Jedi fantasy
Cons
- Underwhelming exploration rewards consisting mostly of cosmetic ponchos and paint jobs
- Technical issues and 'jank' that can make combat feel unresponsive or clunky
- Frustrating boss runbacks and occasionally weird level design
- Puzzles can feel shallow or repetitive to some players
- Linear level design in certain sections can feel like 'walking down a corridor'
Caveats
- Combat may feel significantly less polished when played immediately after high-precision titles like Elden Ring
- The sequel, Jedi: Survivor, is frequently cited as having smoother combat and better quality-of-life features
- Technical performance on older hardware has been described as unstable
Best for
- Star Wars fans seeking a narrative-driven action-adventure
- Players who enjoy Metroidvania exploration without excessive length
- Those looking for a 'Souls-lite' experience that is accessible on lower difficulties
Avoid if
- You require meaningful gameplay rewards (upgrades/gear) for exploration
- You have a low tolerance for technical glitches or movement 'jank'
- You dislike backtracking or repetitive boss runbacks

Parent context: Also currently revisiting Fallen Order after buying it years ago then getting frustrated because it wasn’t as good as Elden Ring, which I platinumed immediately beforehand. Comparatively, it just felt janky and unresponsive. Reply: Not sure any game could fill ER’s shoes, admittedly — but glad I gave Fallen Order another chance, and it’s actually made me enthusiastic about finding time to play it again (which few games do for me now!). Such a polished game.
In Fallen Order, they often felt silly linear, at times as if you're just walking down a corridor. ... I remember Fallen Order, for all its faults, leaving me wanting more.
Wanted to point at Fallen Order, but you just reminded me of KOTOR. Staple of my childhood.
I enjoyed Fallen Order.
After Fallen Order feeling like it was held together by duct tape & glue, I wouldn’t have dreamed of playing it on last gen tbh.
Fallen Order was a good game with its own disappointments but with possible improvements and word of mouth claiming it to be a big improvement
I finished Fallen Order and started Survivor last week, and it was a little shocking how much smoother the combat was. There’s a clunkiness to Fallen Order’s combat that’s basically gone, I feel like moves lead into one another better.
Fallen Order made me realize how fucking cool Star Wars can be. Survivor definitely felt underwhelming, very much missing something.
There was no doubt some "game-y" parts of Fallen Order too (these are games after all) but the levels felt more cohesively designed.
I loved Fallen Order. Everything about it. Some jank and some unnecessarily weird level design, plus stupid boss runbacks, but other than that it was a really solid Star Wars experience. The vibes were immaculate.
