- I played Mage Knight solo a lot and found its deep deckbuilding and campaign feel heavier than Star Trek Frontiers' faster encounter pacing-if you want ... lighter crew-story sessions go Star Trek.
- I ended up keeping Frontiers because of theme as compared to Mage Knight. Fantasy has never appealed to me. Frontiers cuts out a couple of things that I considered fiddly. Day/Night and Artifacts.
- If you're torn between Mage Knight's deep solo campaign and Star Trek Frontiers' lighter crew building, I'd pick ... Frontiers for quicker multiplayer sci‑fi skirmishes.
- Star trek is close enough and cheaper so it's probably the right choice for you.
Cons
- I have Frontiers, but Mage Knight is the only one of the two that is continuing to get new content made for it. And the only extra content for Frontiers is very expensive. I enjoy Frontiers, and will get MK at some point.
- I hadn’t played frontiers but I heard that vlaada wasn’t involved and the balance is off.
- The rule books for both games are nightmares. Star Trek theme falls apart a bit when you are Picard flying around blowing stuff up.
- if it must be star Trek IP then star trek frontiers which is a mage knight clone.

I have both, and I enjoy both differently. Star Trek does away with the day/night mechanics, which is nice, and allows partial blocking in combat. Oh, and your Captain and your ship are two different entities, so it is possible for the Captain to be incapacitated but the ship limps on.

Frontiers is mage knight, streamlined and easier in my opinion. its great, but getting it and the expansion may be difficult.
