Pros

  • Went into the Basilica (just WOW), stayed there for around 3 hours.
  • The Basilica took lots of time, and they are very strict about the dress code: knees and shoulders need to be covered for women
  • I would highly recommend doing St. Peter's Basilica... Be warned - they are INSANELY busy. I don't think I've seen that many people in line for tours before, but it's still well worth it.
  • For me, this is by far the most impressive portion of the Vatican complex.
  • Ended up being by far the most amazing church I could've ever imagined. 100% worth the wait.

Cons

  • Even though we had timed entry for St. Peter's Basilica, it still took almost 90 minutes to get through the line and inside. It is quite spectacular, but we were so beat down from standing in line in the heat for that long that it took a...

Although the line looks long, it only took me 40-60 mins of waiting (and I was all the way at the other end). It was so worth the wait.

Then we returned at 8 am the following day to go to St. Peter's. No crowd at all. It was wonderful.

We also purchased timed entry tickets for that afternoon to St. Peter’s, gets you to a virtual no wait line to metal detectors. We saw long lines for the free entry. Was worth the cost to us.

I think the group I was with ended up being much more impressed with St Peters than the Vatican museum
