If culture, history, landscapes, and wildlife are your priorities then Sri Lanka. It is compact but incredibly diverse due to beaches, mountains, safaris, temples and feels like a proper adventure.
Unfortunately Sri Lanka is one of those places you can’t travel alone as a woman “backpacker” style.
Don’t worry about it, as long as you’re responsibly parenting on your trip and not leaving your child on the streets you’ll be absolutely fine. The main crime in Sri Lanka is petty and it might be annoying when people try to sell you things, but any sort of violent crime against foreigners is very rare. Sri Lanka has great beaches, warm people and some really cool spots. The train ride between Kandy and Ella is always a crowd pleaser!
Sri Lankans have always been super nice and kind to me and I don’t imagine you’d have any problem with kidnapping unless you lock your kid out in the streets while you sleep. I always recommend it though, loved my time there and would go back again 100%

As for Sri Lanka, it's also lovely but a bit less of a honeymoon type place, in my opinion. It's a bit of a higher hassle destination -- nothing compared to India on that front, but also not nearly as chill or "easy" as Thailand.
I like Sri Lanka. The weather confuses me, a lot, but I have had great trips there. The Cultural Triangle is interesting, paired with beach time. Been 4 times and I will go again, but prices have increased over the years.
I've been able to maintain some friendships - two girls I met in Sri Lanka (one Aussie, one American) and had a great time with have stayed friends.
Then go to the neighbouring countries first. Sri Lanka, Nepal, maybe South-East Asia albeit it is a bit further
