Pros

  • Splatoon 3 has gotten a free resolution and framerate (when in the city) bump but not 2 on the Switch 2.
  • If you like a shooter, Splatoon 3. There's plenty of depth if you take time to learn different weapon types or delve into ranked matches or Salmon Run. You could put hundreds of hours into this, or more.
  • If you like a shooter, Splatoon 3. It's main attraction is online play. Turf War mode is most accessible/most popular. The different weapon types adds lots of depth. If you get good with the different weapon types, Salmon Run (co-op mode...
  • Granted Splatoon 3 showed off the previous game's hub (takes all of 60 seconds to walk around), and all the other locales were new.
  • Splatoon 3 and Pokemon were updated for Switch 2 and run much better.

Cons

  • I only buy it when i do plan to play online like for Splatoon 3 and rarely.

If you like a shooter, Splatoon 3. It's main attraction is online play. Turf War mode is most accessible/most popular. The different weapon types adds lots of depth. If you get good with the different weapon types, Salmon Run (co-op mode) is a great next step and adds even more depth. The single player campaign also doubles as a tutorial to help with online play.(I like the single player, too)

If you have the paid service Nintendo Switch Online, Splatoon 3 is a good game.

It's still worth it. Turf war and lower ranks will be a bit frustrating as you get a mix of skills randomly assigned. I still primarily use one of the first weapons I unlocked. I do suggest playing through story mode before hopping online. It's fairly short but gives you a good opportunity to practice your basic skills and try out different weapon types.

I think Splatoon 3 can scratch that first person shooter itch. Even though it's third person, it feel like it still works like FPS. I was so skeptical of Splatoon, and it became one of my favorite all time games. It's sick. The ink guns and ink swimming mechanic are good.

Unironically, might I recommend Splatoon 3? Obviously the aesthetic is a lot more lighthearted than anything you've played, but it's a very family-friendly shooter that even your kids can enjoy, while being surprisingly mechanically complex.
