Pros

  • Rating: 7.5/10 (Good) It was just really damn fun, with cooler traversal, memorable boss fights, and a (much appreciated) more focused open world than its two predecessors.
  • I certainly had a blast with this one but looking back now, I’m glad I didn’t pay full price as I was disappointed with the story that is inferior to the first game and that would reflect in my review score. However, the gameplay, combat...
  • That one's my personal best superhero game of the early '00s. ... it has the most technical and high skill ceiling web swinging of any Spiderman game to date (the more recent ones are substantially more automated), the combat is pretty s...
  • I find insomniac’s Spider-Man series to be the definition of nostalgic gaming: Pure, enjoyable gameplay for the sake of being fun and not a chore, and while there are some mild annoyances, the games are so well-crafted they are often gam...
  • To round off Spider-Man 2, I would give it a 9/10. I think narratively, both of the previous games have it beat, but everywhere else it is so much better. It is a game that every playstation owner must play.

Cons

  • With Spiderman 2 I have no idea why the studio thought it was necessary to re-establish that Harry, Peter and MJ were close friends when they were in school, through hours of additional, boring gameplay. It added no complexity to their c...

  • I played SM2 and thought it was just okay.
  • The only real flaw I can think of is that the open world is pretty barebones in comparison to modern games, only really having a limited set of random encounters to pull from and some parkour time trials. Oh, and the postgame blueballs you.
  • Anyway, enjoying my time and already wishlisted Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2.

I certainly had a blast with this one but looking back now, I’m glad I didn’t pay full price as I was disappointed with the story that is inferior to the first game and that would reflect in my review score. However, the gameplay, combat, and traversal have been significantly improved, which makes it a fun game to play.

With Spiderman 2 I have no idea why the studio thought it was necessary to re-establish that Harry, Peter and MJ were close friends when they were in school, through hours of additional, boring gameplay. It added no complexity to their characters, just repetition.

The game itself is a lot of fun, but I don't think anything conveyed in the aforementioned sections benefited from being playable. They could have provided the same information in a cutscene and it would have had the same impact and I would have felt less bored by it.

That one's my personal best superhero game of the early '00s. ... it has the most technical and high skill ceiling web swinging of any Spiderman game to date (the more recent ones are substantially more automated), the combat is pretty solid overall albeit with a couple broken moves you'll eventually end up spamming, there are some *incredibly* creative and thematic story missions, the writing is consistently great to the point that even the *hint system* is entertaining, and even the random unrelated side content has its own charms

I loved the first two Spider-Man games. Spider-Man 2 left me feeling disappointed and that feeling has only grown with time. I paid $70 for it and platinumed it with every bit of content complete in something like 24 hours and I felt like I was taking my time. I guess I expected more content for $70. The performances and writing weren't clicking with me on this one either, especially for Peter.

I find insomniac’s Spider-Man series to be the definition of nostalgic gaming: Pure, enjoyable gameplay for the sake of being fun and not a chore, and while there are some mild annoyances, the games are so well-crafted they are often games you find yourself playing and losing time to, but also thinking about when you’re not playing it, which I find is more and more rare in today’s gaming landscape. ... To round off Spider-Man 2, I would give it a 9/10.
