I think it's a decent bike to start off with. There aren't a ton of options in that price range, and I would not spend any money on upgrades besides dropper, tubeless, and pedals.
Was my first bike as well... even my Rockhopper was a solid starter bike to get into the sport and it felt really great sending it down everything there is. Perfect for climbing, good to build courage downhill.
