Pros

  • Parent context: Sniper Elite 4 was the only one I played, and it was pretty great. How does 5 compare? Reply: If you liked 4, 5 it's worth for the invasion system alone
  • Parent context: In other stealth games like Hitman or Blacklist or MGSV, suppressing a weapon makes it whisper quiet and you can fire it like 5 feet away from someone and they won't hear it (that hilarious subway shootout scene from John...
  • Consensus: A Stealth Players dream and a rare exhibit of a shooter with soul. The gunplay feels snappy and all the guns are strong and can be customized for any playstyle.

Cons

  • Parent context: "unforgivable" jfc, there are still 4 types of explosives with different modes, which is a lot for a stealth game. The differences between 4 and 5 are very tomayto/tomahto imo, but I give the fun factor to 5. Reply: "unfo...
  • 4 is better. 5 has too much closed spaces, in which makes the enemies easy to spot the player, turning the stealth sniper game into a regular shooter, and those game's shooting mechanics outside of the sniper rifle aren't good.

What redditors said (10 of 12)

I'm on the "SE5 is the better one" camp. Really liked the improvements in map design, mission design and combat. Enemy AI left a lot to be desired; Like, alarm state was more of a boon than a detriment. And though I found myself trying to replay many missions, the lack of RNG elements/challenges made me lose interest pretty quick. Stealth was also amiss.

Parent context: In other stealth games like Hitman or Blacklist or MGSV, suppressing a weapon makes it whisper quiet and you can fire it like 5 feet away from someone and they won't hear it (that hilarious subway shootout scene from John Wick 2 springs to mind) Reply: I loved that about this. There are two audible zones. Your firing bubble and your bullet if it hits anything hard. Once I realized that it made sniping a lot more fun.

In SE4 long range combat basically went out the window after the first map. SE5 took that personally and you can eliminate at least half the map from the other half of the map. ... The story is...not a draw. I get that after 5 games it can be touch difficult pushing a new narrative forward but it's just full of unlikable characters with bad accents, dreadful acting, awful animations and so on. ... It's pretty obviously designed with the intent for you to play the same missions over and over again. I just didn't find it that replayable.

I had sniper elite 5 in my backlog for a while and only started playing it again now. I do know now why i stopped playing the game after the first three missions, it's because it's all the damn same, you should the same guys with the same guns using the same tricks, just in different locations.

5 is missing trip mines and that is unforgivable.

Despite the game being free in Game Pass its DLCs arent, and they are quite expensive. Buying all of them costs about twice as much as the base game (which goes for about 50$).
