Pros

• had 10x 3.5" HDDs across two 5-bay USB 3.0 enclosures which worked fine with DrivePool and Snapraid... Went with Windows 11 IoT LTSC (non-bloated and solid version, highly recommend it) with good old DrivePool and Snapraid

• i recommend using Mergerfs for the drivepool and Snapraid as a disk failure backup and recovery solution.
• I looked into it, snapraid seems like it would be good for me.
• unraid and snapraid both work will with mix drives.

Cons

• The only thing to keep in mind though is that SnapRAID does not have realtime parity and instead depends on a scheduled sync operation, so is not suitable for often changing files. it does however provide actual bitrot detection/correcti...
• If you don't like truenas you could still run full freebsd or Linux and have a lot more options but still run zfs underneath or btrfs, mergerfs and snapraid however you want.
• I also plan to add snapRaid to my mergerFS Pool, but for now Im thinking about how to extend my backup space as my backup disk is getting full.
• It is paid though, and there are other options but nothing I can speak for (I believe snapraid is similar).
• Remember that while snapraid does provide redundancy using parity, it is not real time. In some ways this is great, in other ways bad. Great: It allows you to use the parity to restore stuff you deleted by mistake. Bad: You need to man...
