Cascais and Sintra are both popular day trips from Lisbon.
Sintra gets a lot of praise, but I just went a couple weeks ago and honestly didn’t love it. It’s all crowds and traffic and tuk tuk drivers shouting at you to take a ride with them. The buses were packed and kinda miserable.
Nothing in Sintra is flat and the roads are not city roads with walkable sidewalks, when thinking of Sintra I would think of a lot of hiking.
You can do Lisbon for 4-5 days with a day trip to Sintra, then head south to the Algarve for the rest
