Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Simplicity Jill is a highly recommended budget-friendly canister vacuum specifically tailored for hard floors. While it is praised for its strong suction, HEPA filtration, and inclusion of a metal telescoping wand at a low price point, it is a straight-suction machine that lacks a motorized brush roll, making it poorly suited for homes with significant carpeting.

Pros

  • Excellent performance on hard floors and vinyl planking
  • Equipped with HEPA bags and a HEPA filter for better air quality
  • Features a durable telescoping metal wand and an automatic cord rewinder
  • Lightweight and portable, making it effective for stairs and upholstery
  • Strong suction power that competes with more expensive models

Cons

  • No motorized brush roll, rendering it ineffective for most carpets
  • Noticeably louder than premium canister brands like Miele or Sebo
  • Short power cord and hose length limit cleaning range
  • Build quality concerns regarding attachments and handles coming loose

Caveats

  • Described by some users as a rebranded version of the Bissell Zing
  • Expected lifespan is roughly 5+ years, which is shorter than high-end alternatives
  • High suction can make it difficult to move across some area rugs even when adjusted
  • Some users reported receiving used units or facing steep restocking fees from certain retailers

Best for

  • Hardwood, tile, and vinyl plank flooring
  • Small apartments or homes with minimal carpeting
  • Users seeking HEPA filtration on a strict budget
  • Cleaning stairs and above-floor surfaces

Avoid if

  • You have medium-to-high pile wall-to-wall carpeting
  • You are sensitive to vacuum noise levels
  • You require a long cleaning radius for large open spaces

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of approximately 376 days, which may affect relevance for current pricing or minor hardware revisions.

Cheaper options are the Simplicity Jill $161 and the Powr-Flite Newton Turbo $175. The Simplicity Jill is much cheaper but doesn't come with a turbo brush, it's average noise but that's louder than the Miele, Sebo, and Powr-Flite, and it won't last as long around 5+ years.

So I'd look at the Simplicity Jill $134. It's a small canister vacuum with hepa bags and a hepa filter. It will do great on hard floors and the hose and tools will be good for the stairs and upholstery.

If you have hardfloors, you don't want a brushroll at all. Look into the Simplicity Jill, it will handle your home much better.

The Jill isn't bad, it's just not my choice

I'd choose the Simplicity Jill. The Kenmore Intuition has more moving parts to break and it's not as durable. You also don't need the spinning brushroll and getting a vacuum without a brushroll like the Jill will avoid hairwrap.

Simplicity Jill or if you can swing it a Miele C1 pure suction.

Well, the store has terrible ratings for customer service and $100 restocking fee when a customer returned a Jill vacuum the next day.

Parent context: The Jill seemed okay, and then I looked at the Scout. He is $40 more on all models than an internet price. I like to support small local businesses, but that seemed like a big markup. So you recommend the Jill? Reply: The Simplicity Jill, for example, is a rebranded Bissell Zing.
