Cheaper options are the Simplicity Jill $161 and the Powr-Flite Newton Turbo $175. The Simplicity Jill is much cheaper but doesn't come with a turbo brush, it's average noise but that's louder than the Miele, Sebo, and Powr-Flite, and it won't last as long around 5+ years.
So I'd look at the Simplicity Jill $134. It's a small canister vacuum with hepa bags and a hepa filter. It will do great on hard floors and the hose and tools will be good for the stairs and upholstery.
If you have hardfloors, you don't want a brushroll at all. Look into the Simplicity Jill, it will handle your home much better.
