Pros

  • in terms of graphics, it’s honestly pretty good looking and fairly on par with other versions. But there’s weird hiccups where units hair/armour will disappear as you zoom out, as well as a good chunk of buildings disappearing.
  • It's actually surprisingly playable with the controller. I've been playing on the steam deck and it feels quite natural.
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 has the series in its best shape yet.
  • Civilization VII brings the series the revitalization it needs, with gorgeous new visuals, innovative city building and a new way to lead armies.
  • The incentives and dynamism that the new approach to Civilization switching with the legacy paths will keep the game fresh both across games and within them. Abandoning games after about 80 turns was a big issue for me in the last few ti...

Cons

  • Anyone else have an issue putting this game in sleep mode? Feel like often times it softlocks the system on me. Coming out of sleep mode is just a black screen needing a hard reset.
  • Seems like a good port of an imperfect game. I have been playing on PC , 40 hours so far. It has issues, but the one more turn bug is back.
  • Just read the review and they’ve definitely weighted the score more toward gameplay features than the technical state of the game. They’re a little enamoured with things like influence points and leaders not being locked to their histori...
  • I do not know very much of Nintendolife, but there is no way this game is a 8/10 as of right now? Maybe eventually, but it seems buggy as hell?
  • the switch version suffered from civ 6 turn 300-like performance issues right from the first turn. There’s no excuse this game should run this poorly, especially given it’s running on the same system as MPR that looks gorgeous at 60fps.

Just read the review and they’ve definitely weighted the score more toward gameplay features than the technical state of the game. They’re a little enamoured with things like influence points and leaders not being locked to their historically accurate country etc. I’ve not played the Switch version (or any version, yet) but based on what I have heard, I was pretty surprised to see them give it 8/10.

So all in all, a fairly middling port. Especially for one developed with the switch in mind. A 5/10 game overall, I’d defintley say to wait for the inevitable price drop. As it’s nowhere near worth the money for the state of it at this time. And I’m speaking as someone who bought the founders edition.

the UI is abysmal, especially when trying to navigate. Want to click select like civ 6 to pull up tile info? Sorry, that’s left stick button now, the select pulls up social tab.

It’s usually obvious to me when I’m playing a game with M&K that was designed for controllers. Everything is huge on the screen (because they think you’re playing on your couch looking at a tv), radial menus, one button does 5 different things and you can’t rebind it. Consoles are far less capable than PCs when it comes to a game like this. Seems like I won’t be playing the new Civ.
